Convert WAV to MP3 Online
Pick a WAV file and convert it to a much smaller MP3 on your device. Dramatically reduce file size while preserving audio quality.
How it works
- Upload your WAV audio file. Drag your uncompressed WAV file into the audio converter. Standard PCM WAV at any common sample rate or bit depth is accepted; nothing is uploaded.
- Select MP3. Choose MP3 as the output format. DomeScribe encodes it at a high variable bitrate (around 190 kbps), which is transparent for speech and most music. For a specific bitrate — 64, 128, 192, or 320 kbps — use the audio compressor instead.
- Convert. Click Convert. Audio encoding is quick even on modest hardware — a one-hour WAV typically takes well under a minute.
- Save your MP3. Expect a file roughly ten times smaller than the WAV. Save it with a free account and share it by email, messaging apps, or podcast hosts.

Frequently asked questions
How much space will I save converting WAV to MP3?
WAV files are uncompressed, so they are extremely large. A typical 4-minute song at CD quality takes about 40 MB as WAV and roughly 5–6 MB as the high-quality variable-bitrate MP3 DomeScribe produces — about a 7–8x reduction.
Is there any quality loss when converting WAV to MP3?
MP3 is a lossy format, so some audio data is discarded. At the bitrate DomeScribe uses (around 190 kbps VBR) the loss is inaudible to most people. For critical listening or archival, convert to FLAC instead, which compresses without any quality loss.
Can I convert a WAV recorded from a microphone or voice memo?
Yes. DomeScribe handles WAV files from voice recorders, DAWs, phone apps, or studio equipment. The output MP3 is ready to share via email or messaging, or to upload to a podcast host.
Can I pick the MP3 bitrate?
The audio converter uses one high-quality variable-bitrate setting. If you want a specific bitrate — 64 kbps for voice, 128, 192, or 320 kbps — use DomeScribe's audio compressor, which also runs in your browser.
Is the WAV file uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser; the WAV never leaves your device and there is no monthly limit.
